FAQs
RL Reactors perform better with regard to watts loss and overload capability:
- 150% Continuous Service Factor up to 750A
- Available in open style, NEMA 1/2 and NEMA 3R cabinets
- No de-rating needed for load side applications
RLW Reactors features:
- Continuous Service Factor is 100%
- Require de-rating for load side applications
- Available in open or NEMA 1/2
Both are stocked in various sizes and enclosure options @ Vanco.
3% Reactors:
- Ideal for absorbing line spikes and motor current surges
- Prevent nuisance tripping in most applications
- Typically specified by most drive manufacturers
- THID: 45% or less when used alone
5% Reactors:
- Better for reducing harmonic current and frequencies
- Recommended for lowering VFD-generated harmonics
- Reduce motor operating temperature
- THID: 35% or less when used alone
Combination Benefits:
- 3% AC + 3% DC: 33% or less THID
- 5% AC + 3% DC: 28% or less THID
- Common Mode Current: Induced by PWM drives, it flows through motor bearings, causing pitting ("fluting") and premature failure.
- Peak Voltage: The highest voltage in a waveform, stressing motor insulation. Non-inverter motors handle ≤1,000V; inverter-duty motors handle higher (e.g., 1,782V for 575V motors).
- Rise Time: Time for voltage to reach its peak. Faster rise times (e.g., <2μs for non-inverter motors) increase insulation stress.
Match the filter to the drive/motor voltage and current ratings. If an exact current match isn’t available, choose the next largest rating.
Mount as close to the VFD output as possible to protect motor leads and the motor itself.
All MTE filters (SineWave Nexus™, dV E-Series, dV Sentry™) include a 3-year warranty from shipment date.
Yes: SineWave Nexus™ (sum motor loads; separate overload protection required).
No: dV E-Series and dV Sentry™ (use SineWave Guardian™ for multiple motors).
- SineWave Nexus™/Guardian™: Up to 15,000 ft.
- dV E-Series/Sentry™: Up to 1,000 ft.
- SineWave Nexus™: No—standard cables are sufficient.
- dV Series: Follow standard VFD guidelines.
- SineWave Nexus™: Eliminates need for non-step-up transformers.
- Step-up transformers: Use SineWave Guardian™ for differential mode issues.
NEMA 1/2 (indoor) and NEMA 3R (outdoor) options for all filters.
- Temperature Switches: SineWave Nexus™ and dV Sentry™ include 150°C thermal switches.
- Overload Protection: All filters support 150% current for 1 minute and 200% for 10 seconds.
Yes—all are UL/cUL Listed and CE marked.
Lower frequencies reduce drive/motor stress and heat loss. Optimal performance:
- SineWave Nexus™: 4 kHz (operates 2–8 kHz)
- dV Series: Lower frequencies recommended
