Running dedicated control wiring or deploying full-scale PLCs just to monitor field switches and trigger relays adds unnecessary cost and friction. Standalone edge controllers solve this by putting signal monitoring and relay control directly onto your existing IP network, without custom ladder logic or recurring software fees.
Compact Edge Hardware: X-408-I & X-WR-444-E
Deploying dedicated modules lets you place inputs and relays exactly where they belong across your plant floor.
- X-408-I Digital Input Module: Features eight optically isolated digital inputs (1,500V isolation) that shield your network from transient power surges and electrical noise. Each channel independently handles discrete ON/OFF state sensing, high-speed pulse counting up to 200 Hz, or runtime tracking. An internal supercapacitor retains counter registers and time settings for two weeks during power drops.
- X-WR-444-E Relay Controller: Houses four SPDT Form C relays rated to switch 3-Amp loads. Contacts are constructed with arc-resistant silver tin oxide ($AgSnO_2$) to handle inductive inrush currents. Powered via standard Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) or auxiliary 9–28 VDC, it ensures continuous uptime for pumps, valves, and gates.

Zero PLC Code, Native Protocol Support
System setup takes minutes in any standard web browser using the embedded Task Builder. You can easily build conditional actions, timed events, or maintenance overrides using simple drop-down menus.
Because these controllers run a micro-firmware architecture instead of a general-purpose OS, they eliminate OS-level security risks while natively supporting:
- Modbus TCP/IP for SCADA and HMI integration.
- MQTT for direct edge-to-cloud telemetry.
- HTTP/HTTPS & REST APIs for JSON/XML data retrieval.
- SNMP & Encrypted Email Alerts for instant event notifications.
Practical Field Applications
From monitoring tank level switches in municipal water networks to triggering motorized gates and door locks in facility access systems, these standalone modules streamline remote operations. By leveraging your existing Ethernet network, you get fast, reliable edge control without licensing fees, software installs, or complex programming.
